First ‘Emo’ refers to a music genre ‘emocore’ from hardcore punk. Today emo is commonly tied to both music and fashion. So if you wear tight jeans, have dyed your hair black with a long fringe brushed to one side of your face and like t-shirts printed with skulls, stars, etc., then you can probably fit into the ‘emo’ stereotype.
